chemical properties
White slightly purple powder, density 6.506, melting point 1410℃, boiling point 2300℃. Insoluble in water, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and sulfuric acid, but soluble in perchloric acid. It is hygroscopic in the air and relatively stable. It forms an insoluble double salt of NH4F?NdF3 with ammonium fluoride.

It is used to prepare scintillator for detectors, rare earth crystal laser materials and rare earth fluoride glass optical fibers. In the metallurgical industry, it is an additive to magnesium alloys for aviation and electrolytic production of metals. Used in the manufacture of arc lamp carbon electrodes in lighting sources.
