The bonding effect of pressure-sensitive adhesive on the substrate is mainly achieved through the van der Waals force between the pressure-sensitive adhesive and the substrate. Van der Waals force is a short-range force, and its force decays rapidly with the sixth power of the distance. To obtain a high-strength bonding interface, close contact at the molecular level must be established at the interface, and the molecular distance should generally be less than 0.5nm. The solid surface usually cannot reach the flatness of 1nm level. During the bonding process, almost all substrates should be regarded as rough surfaces, and the wetting and spreading of the pressure-sensitive adhesive play the role of filling the peaks and valleys, so that the contact area of the two adherends is increased through the adhesive, and the short-range distance of less than 0.5nm that generates molecular forces is reached. It is mainly used to make pressure-sensitive tapes and films for applying plasters to the skin.
