This cumene-terminated SMA copolymer (CAS 26762-29-8) is a low molecular weight styrene maleic anhydride copolymer with a narrow molecular weight distribution. The cumene end-capping controls chain length during polymerization, giving consistent batch-to-batch performance.
The polymer contains around 75 wt.% styrene, providing a hydrophobic backbone, and an acid value of 265–305 mg KOH/g from the maleic anhydride groups. These anhydride groups react with amines, alcohols, and epoxides, enabling use as a dispersant, compatibilizer, or coupling agent.

Pigment Dispersants
Anhydride groups adsorb onto pigment surfaces, providing steric stabilization. Used in solvent-based and aqueous pigment concentrates. Carbon black can be dispersed to approximately 84 nm with this grade.
