Octanal, 1-Octanol, Sodium borohydride, Sodium hydroxide, Decanoic acid, Sulfuric acid, Methanol
Reaction
1. Reduction of Octanal to 1-Octanol using Sodium borohydride as a reducing agent, 2. Esterification of 1-Octanol with Decanoic acid using Sulfuric acid as a catalyst to form Octyl decanoate, 3. Hydrolysis of Octyl decanoate using Sodium hydroxide to form 2-Octanol, 4. Oxidation of 2-Octanol to 2-Octyldecanoic acid using Methanol and Sodium hydroxide as a solvent and oxidizing agent respectively.
