Famoxadone is a bicyclic heterocycle that is structurally related to the fungicide tebuconazole. It is a bactericidal agent and has been shown to have synergistic effects with trifluoroacetic acid.

The chemical structure of famoxadone allows it to be used as a model system for other bicyclic heterocycles, such as fenamidone, which are being investigated for their potential use in chemotherapy. Famoxadone binds to the DNA of bacteria and inhibits its synthesis, leading to cell death. This drug also has an effect on fatty acids by inhibiting their conversion into monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs).

Famoxadone is a fungicide to protect agricultural products against various fungal diseases on fruiting vegetables, tomatoes, potatoes, curcurbits, lettuce and grapes. It is used in combination with cymoxanil.
