Introduction and application of CAS: 7785-23-1 | SILVER BROMIDE
SILVERBROMIDE;SILVER(I)BROMIDE;SILVERBROMIDE99.999%;Silverbromide,Premion,99.999%(metalsbasis);Silverbromide,Premion(R),99.998%(metalsbasis);SILVERBROMIDEPURIFIED;Silverbromide(99.9%-Ag);silverbromide,premion
Photochromic lenses are made by adding appropriate amounts of silver bromide and copper oxide microcrystals to ordinary glass. When exposed to strong light, silver bromide decomposes into silver and bromine. The decomposed silver microcrystals make the glass appear dark brown. When the light becomes dim, silver and bromine regenerate silver bromide under the catalytic action of copper oxide. As a result, the color of the lens becomes lighter again.
AgBr is photosensitive and is often used in photographic negatives. A thin layer of gelatin containing tiny silver bromide is coated on the printing paper. When light of different strengths is projected onto the negative during photography, it causes different degrees of decomposition products of AgBr on the negative. Bromine and gelatin combine with silver to form extremely tiny silver nuclei that precipitate on the negative. The more AgBr decomposes in the part with the strongest light sensitivity, the darker that part will be. In addition, silver bromide is similar to silver iodide and can also be used as colloidal material for artificial rainfall.
