Introduction:
L-arabinose, also known as gum aldehyde and pectin sugar; is an aldopentose. L-arabinose rarely exists in the form of monosaccharides in nature. It is usually combined with other monosaccharides and exists in the form of heteropolysaccharides in gum, hemicellulose, pectic acid, bacterial polysaccharides and certain glycosides. It has high stability to heat and acid. L-arabinose, as a low-calorie sweetener, has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare as a health food additive.
