5-Bromo-2-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine (5-BTP) is a ligand that binds to molybdenum. It has been extensively used as ancillary in crystallography, where it has been shown to be an efficient fluorescent probe for electron density mapping. 5-BTP is also used in low efficiency photoluminescence spectroscopy and thermally stimulated luminescence. The emission of 5-BTP is dependent on the coordination geometry of the metal ion, with more efficient emissions being observed when the metal ion is activated or when introducing heterocycles. 5-BTP has been used to study the photophysical properties of metal complexes and their thermally stimulated emissions in functional theory as well as their efficiencies.
