Introduction of CAS:4485-12-5|Lithium stearate
|
Lithium stearate is a lithium salt of stearic acid. It is an important intermediate in the manufacture of lubricating greases, candles, and plastics. Lithium stearate is often used as a non-lubricant additive for mineral oils and synthetic oils. The calcium stearate that is formed can be precipitated by adding hydrochloric acid to the solution containing lithium stearate and calcium hydroxide. This precipitate can be collected by decanting the solution or filtering it off. Lithium stearate has been shown to have high values in viscosity and polycarboxylic acid with a reaction mechanism that involves the formation of hydrochloric acid. |
