5-Bromo-2-(tetrazol-5-yl)pyridine (5bTP) is a ligand that binds to the active site of bacterial DNA gyrase, which is an enzyme that maintains the integrity of bacterial DNA. 5bTP has been shown to be effective against enterococci and staphylococci, although it is not active against acid-fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex. 5bTP has also been shown to have antimicrobial properties in vitro. The photophysical properties of 5bTP are poorly understood, but there are some data on its pharmacokinetics and radiation profiles.
5-Bromo-2-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)pyridine is a reagent in the synthesis and antibacterial activity of oxazolidinones containing pyridine substituted with heteroaromatic ring.
