4-Cyanophenylboronic acid pinacol ester is a protonated form of retinoic acid that has been activated with an optical acceptor. This compound has been shown to be able to cross-couple with aryl boronic acids under thermally activated conditions, as well as react with hydroxyl groups or halides. The use of this compound in clinical development depends on the desired properties. If the desired property is aryl boronic acids, then this compound is best used in cross-coupling reactions. Alternatively, if the desired property is hydroxyl group or halides, then this compound can be used in reactions involving these functional groups.
