4-(2-Carboxyethyl)phenylboronic acid is a reactive and toxic compound that is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. The compound has been shown to have high catalytic activity in vivo, with biodistribution studies showing that the compound accumulates selectively in tumor cells. 4-(2-Carboxyethyl)phenylboronic acid has also been shown to be an effective inhibitor of dopamine uptake into rat brain synaptosomes. This inhibition may be due to the presence of an acidic group on the molecule.
