The researchers demonstrated that optimal intramolecular polarity of COF can be achieved by using the right amount of phenyl as an electron donor to maximize free charge, resulting in a high H2O2 yield (605 μmol g−1 h−1) from water, oxygen, and visible light without sacrificing agents. In combination with in situ characterization and computational calculations, we describe how the triazine N site with the optimal N 2p state plays a key role in the activation and selective oxidation of H2O to H2O2. It has been further proved by experiments that H2O2 can be effectively produced in tap water, river water or sea water under the action of natural sunlight and air for water purification.
