Introduction and application of CAS No.2530-10-1 | 3-Acetyl-2,5-dimethylthiophene
3-Acetyl-2,5-dimethylthiophene is a chalcone that has been shown to be an inhibitor of Listeria monocytogenes. It has been used in the treatment of bacterial infections and has been shown to have a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity. 3-Acetyl-2,5-dimethylthiophene inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA gyrase, preventing the formation of supercoiled DNA. It also inhibits protein synthesis and cell division by interfering with the enzyme fatty acid synthase. 3-Acetyl-2,5-dimethylthiophene is more effective against gram positive bacteria than gram negative bacteria. This agent is toxic to mammalian cells in high concentrations but does not appear to be toxic at low concentrations.
