The main components of sandalwood oil are α-santalol, β-santalol, α-santalene and β-santalene. Also contains tricyclic santal aldehyde, trans-α-bergamotene, α-aromatic curcumene, cenanyl alcohol, α-santal aldehyde and β-santal aldehyde. Sandalwood essential oil is known for its woody, sweet scent and is often used as the basis for products such as fragrances, perfumes, cosmetics and aftershaves. It mixes well with other essential oils, making it an ideal companion oil. Most sandalwood is produced in Indonesia. The best quality sandalwood is the Indian variety, with the Latin scientific name: Santalumalbum.
