4-Fluoro-2-methylbenzoic acid is a chemical compound with the molecular formula of C7H6FO2. It is a white solid that has two isomers. 4-Fluoro-2-methylbenzoic acid can be synthesized by Friedel–Crafts acylation with acetyl chloride, which is an industrial reaction for the production of esters. The synthesis method for this compound includes: reacting aluminum or sodium hypochlorite with anhydrous chlorobenzene in the presence of a catalytic amount of copper powder and a slight excess of methylamine. This chemical synthesis method results in 4-fluoro-2-methylbenzoic acid and 3,4,5,6 tetrafluorobenzoic acid as products.
