(S)-[1,1'-Binaphthalene]-2,2'-diylbis[1,1-diphenyl-1,1'-phosphine oxide] is a diphosphine ligand that has been used to catalyze the amination reaction of β-amino acids with aromatic hydrocarbons. The phosphine oxide moiety of this compound reacts with the aromatic hydrocarbon and the resulting intermediate can react with β-amino acid to form an amide.

This reaction is chiral and yields a homogeneous assay. The phosphine oxide moiety also has functional groups that can react with acidic catalysts such as HCl or HBr to produce an amide.
