Broad-spectrum nuclease Binuclease is a non-specific endonuclease derived from Serratia marcescens (also known as Spiritbacter) that has been modified through protein engineering technology. It does not contain bacterial endotoxins expressed by prokaryotes. Functionally, it can cleave various forms of DNA and RNA, whether single-stranded, double-stranded, linear, circular or superhelical, cutting the phosphodiester bond to produce 5'-phosphate nucleoside acid or 5'-phosphate oligonucleotide. Broad-spectrum nucleases have no specific requirements for nucleic acid base sequences and can cut between any nucleotides in the chain, and can be used to remove nucleic acids in biological products. In the vaccine industry, protein and polysaccharide pharmaceutical industry, it is widely used to remove host nucleic acid residues, which can cause nucleic acid contamination of vaccines and protein products to reach picogram (pg) levels. Broad-spectrum nucleases can also be used as the enzyme preparation of choice for deviscifying cultured cell supernatants and cell lysates.
