AP 1903 is a nanoparticulate composition that contains a monoclonal antibody directed against the erythropoietin receptor (EPOR) and an immunomodulatory agent. The EPOR-antibody in the AP 1903 formulation binds to EPOR on tumor cells and activates them, which leads to increased production of colony-stimulating factors, such as erythropoietin and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor.

In vitro assays have shown that AP 1903 has the potential to induce pluripotent cells from mouse embryonic stem cells. This drug also has small-molecule characteristics and is currently being investigated for the treatment of bronchiolitis obliterans.
