As a China-based manufacturer, Alfa Chemical today announced the completion of a capacity expansion for L-Carvone (CAS 6485-40-1) at its Zhengzhou facility. The expansion adds 20 tons per year of FCC-grade L-Carvone, bringing total annual capacity to 50 tons.
The expansion responds to sustained demand from the global spearmint flavor market. According to a 2025 Dataintelo report, the global carvone market, including L- and D-isomers, was valued at approximately USD 53.8 million in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 72.9 million by 2034. Flavor applications account for 51.6% of the market, followed by oral care at 27.8%. China and India together supply over 75% of global carvone production.
"Over the past two years, our European and North American customers in oral care and chewing gum have asked for larger, more predictable volumes," said a company spokesperson at Alfa Chemical. "This expansion gives us the capacity to serve both R&D sample requests and multi-ton bulk orders without delay."
L-Carvone is a levorotatory monoterpene ketone found in spearmint oil. As part of Alfa Chemical's material chemicals portfolio, it is supplied at ≥99% GC purity with optical rotation of –62° to –57°. The product is produced to FCC specifications and is FEMA GRAS for use as a flavoring substance. Every lot is accompanied by a batch-specific COA and SDS.
The expansion follows an internal quality review at the Zhengzhou site in Q3 2026. The site maintains ISO 9001:2015 certification and produces L-Carvone to FCC specifications. Batch-to-batch consistency is verified through gas chromatography and optical rotation testing before release.
The Zhengzhou facility now operates with expanded production lines and increased storage capacity. Standard packaging includes 100 g, 1 kg, 25 kg, and 200 kg drums. Stock items ship within 3–7 business days. Research samples remain available for R&D evaluation.
Alfa Chemical plans to expand its flavor and fragrance intermediate portfolio in 2027. Further updates will be published as plans are confirmed.
